Sustainability at Tulip Towel Industries
We don't use sustainability as a marketing phrase. Here are the specific numbers, certifications, and systems behind our environmental and social commitments, the same data we share with all our and compliance auditors.
Energy
In July 2024, we installed a 170 KW solar panel system across Building 2, now producing 31% of our total energy consumption. Expansion to 400 KW across Buildings 1 and 3 is planned.
- Energy efficiency: 1.07 kWh per kg of product manufactured
- Carbon footprint: 270g CO2 equivalent per kg of product
- LED lighting: 70% complete — 100% by end of 2026
- Target: 25% CO2 reduction by December 2026
- Target: 20% reduction in total energy consumption by December 2026
Water
Total water received in 2024 was 2.18 million litres — equivalent to 25.96 litres per employee per day.
- No wet processing on site — dyeing is outsourced to partner dyeing houses
- On-site water is used only for: humidification plant, solar panel cleaning, sanitary facilities, and the canteen
- Moving to need-based solar panel cleaning to reduce consumption further
Packaging
- Polybags: LDPE made from recycled material
- Cartons: FSC-certified recycled cardboard
- Carton consumption: 0.1 kg per kg of product
- GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certification in preparation for recycled yarn orders
Fire Safety
Our facility meets a level of fire preparedness that satisfies even the most stringent European compliance auditors. Across 40,000 sq ft:
- 83 smoke detectors — one per 855 sq ft
- 86 fire extinguishers — one per 825 sq ft
- Three suppression types: CO2, BCF, and DCP (Dry Chemical Powder)
- Nearly 1,000 kg of fire retardants on premises
- 6 escape routes, 13 fire-safety doors, 2 escape staircases
- Annual audit by EFU Insurance — Pakistan's most stringent insurer
- All employees trained by the insurance company and Fire Safety Brigade
Certifications
- OEKO-TEX Standard 100, Class I — Certified safe for direct skin contact, including babies. Tested by Hohenstein Institute, Germany.
- BSCI — B Rating — Independent social compliance audit covering labour rights, fair wages, and workplace safety.
- ISO 9001 — Quality Management System certified by an international consultancy.
- FSC — Responsible sourcing of cartons, tags, and paper packaging. Available on request.
